Position Summary: Cooks are in charge of prepping food and executing recipes according to menu specifications while meeting presentation and timing standards. Duties include preparing food and maintaining a clean, organized and well-stocked work area.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Model the values of Mike’s Organic
  • Ensure prep stations and kitchen are properly set up, clean and stocked
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of recipes and procedures for all menu items
  • Prepare recipes by chopping produce, cutting and handling meat and preparing sauces
  • Ensure food prep and storage areas meet health and safety standards
  • Set up sanitation bucket and trash receptacles and ensure work areas are clean and sanitized
  • Ensure quality of ingredients before using them
  • Control and minimize waste
  • Comply with safety regulations and procedures
  • Answer, report out on and follow manager’s instructions
  • Do inventory counts; monitor and replenish stock when needed
  • Coordinate with and assist teammates as needed
  • Positive, professional approach with coworkers and vendors
  • Label packages with product information and weight
  • Pack a variety of items into boxes, weigh and label for delivery
  • Use of a retail and inventory management system
  • Other duties as assigned


Qualifications:

  • Ability to follow all sanitation procedures
  • Knowledge and proficiency in various cooking methods (sauté, braise, grill, poach) and familiarity with recipe execution
  • Ability to follow instructions and work quickly
  • Able to manage own time to complete multiple tasks in fast-paced environment
  • Positive, friendly disposition; work effectively in a team environment
  • Professional appearance; dress in accordance with safety standards


Certifications:

  • Valid ServSafe Food Handler Certificate


Work Environment and Physical Demands:

  • Exposure to hazards or physical risks such as open flame and sharp knives, which require following basic safety precautions
  • Exposure to extreme heat, steam and cold present in a kitchen environment
  • Spend up to 20 minutes in a walk-in freezer, which is a confined space that varies from 32-40 degrees
  • Able to work quickly and handle multiple tasks
  • Stand and walk for an entire shift (up to 8 hours)
  • Repetitive motion, pulling, pushing, lifting and moving
  • Manual dexterity to cut and chop foods and perform other related tasks
  • Lifting and carry heavy containers up to 50 lbs.
  • Move safely through all areas of the facility, which may include stairs, uneven or slick surfaces


Pay and Benefits:

  • Pay: $17.00 - $22.00 per hour
