In the Persistent Surveillance Systems department, we monitor and localize passive acoustic contacts on a 24/7 operational schedule for many different contracts. Our team is devoted to providing timely and accurate contact reporting on both biologic and manmade contacts. We also do all our piloting in-house for a variety of unmanned vehicles, which we use to carry our acoustic payloads.

Position Summary:

Requires a base line understanding of acoustic analysis, established by the in-house Acoustic Analyst Apprenticeship program (in development) or a minimum experience level with active/passive acoustic monitoring systems.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Support 24hr watch cycles.
  • Conduct evaluation of acoustically received sources.
  • Create positions for acoustically held sources.
  • Draft reports on acoustically held sources.
  • Facilitate trouble shooting procedures for internal acoustic monitoring program.
  • Operate acoustic monitoring program.
  • Contract support
  • Less than 5% at sea time

Qualifications and Educational Requirements:

  • Prior enlisted STS/STG (4 years and below) Or Attended the ThayerMahan Acoustic Apprenticeship Program

Required Skills:

  • Highschool level arithmetic.
  • Ability to articulate data findings required.
  • Ability understand PC file structures is required.
  • Must be able to read a nautical chart.
  • Learning and adapting to new technologies.
  • Clear and efficient communication.

Preferred Skills:

  • Bachelors in Oceanography, Data Analyst, and other degrees focused on underwater physics or data analysis

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:

  • Ability to travel to Groton HQ (Monday - Friday)
  • Must be able to look at a monitor for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to pass a physical testing both sight and hearing
  • Be willing and able to travel (nationally and/or internationally)
