At the principal scientist level, the qualifications include a broad theoretical foundation combined with some experimental/data analysis experience, as well as the ability to develop and lead independent research initiatives. Strong written and verbal communication skills are required. Toward this end, individuals must show evidence of the ability to write research proposals and test plans, prepare and deliver sponsor briefings, and author technical reports and open-literature publications. In addition to these expectations, the successful candidate should possess the ability to lead a software development team, perform acoustic and oceanographic data analysis, and advise the application of digital signal processing theory to multi-channel sensor array processing in a real-time embedded computing environment. Preference will be shown to those candidates with programming experience in C, facility with Linux operating systems, and a willingness to travel and support at-sea experiments.
