Based in West Hartford CT, Triumph Systems, Electronics and Controls is a leading independent aerospace system supplier for the commercial and military helicopter and business jet markets and employs approximately 500 employees. The Company’s key products and services include electronic engine controls, fuel metering units, main fuel pumps and environmental control systems for both the OE and aftermarket/spares end markets.

About the Job
The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for leading the creation and improvement of products that involve the engineering department. This includes the design, development, and analysis of aircraft fuel system components.
Responsibilities
•Review customer requirements for understanding with the intention of providing mechanical solutions to thermal and engine system elements, such as vapor cycle compressors, thermal expansion valves, heat exchangers, fuel pumps & metering units, actuation systems and accessories.
•Create internal system requirements specification from customer requirements including listings of assumptions to be discussed with further customer contact.
•Generate and perform relevant mechanical design and analyses with respect to fuel pumping systems, vapor cooling systems, and/or actuation systems.
•Package complex mechanical airborne systems and components.
•Lead engineering trade studies and analysis.
•Perform detailed design analyses and present results to customers in support of design reviews.
•Provide design solutions to resolve mechanical issues.
Qualifications
•BSME with 5 – 10 years of related experience preferred or equivalent 15+ years aerospace specific design experience.
•Specific interest in turbine engine fuel/oil pump design, environmental control system packaging, component design and analysis.
•Specific interest in high-speed rotating systems/assemblies.
•System design skills including development technology, trade studies, and requirements/specification development.
•Able to read, understand, and generate complex mechanical detail parts and assembly drawings.
•Able to read and understand hydraulic schematics.
•Strong technical communication skills (written and verbal).
•Ability and willingness to travel as required.
•Proficient in 3D solid modelling, preferably UG NX or Catia.
•Proficient in understanding and applying GD&T requirements to new designs.
•Able to perform complex assembly tolerance studies.
•Familiarity with casting and machining principles including additive manufacturing.
•Understanding of valve function and design.
•Able to create detailed mechanical design layouts based on design inputs from customer specifications and other engineering team
•Self-motivated and ability to work independently with minimal guidance and as part of a team.
•Ability to meet project deadlines/schedule within budget.
