Location of Position:

This position will be based in our Burnaby, BC office.

The Opportunity:

Reporting to the Director of Hardware, the Electronics Technologist will assist engineers in developing and implementing RF/analog/mixed signal hardware for volume electronics manufacturing of wireless endpoint and wireless modem devices used within the utility marketplace. The Electronics Technologist will engage in practical problem solving, using initiative and formal training in electrical and electronics to construct and implement fixtures, wiring, including the sourcing of materials with limited supervision.

Specifically, the Electronics Technologist will:

  • Provide support for hardware/firmware development environments and Quality Assurance lab infrastructure.
  • Complete fabrication of test fixtures that are required for design validation.
  • Complete schematic and board level troubleshooting.
  • Test and debug analog, digital, and mixed signal circuits, including completing formal documentation of test results.
  • Rework surface mount and leaded PCB assemblies, using excellent soldering skills, and use PCB rework equipment under a microscope.
  • Design analog/digital circuits or interfaces as they apply to product development needs such as firmware development environments and tools.
  • Use workshop tools, drill press, milling machines to construct test setups, jigs, and development environments for product development and verification.
  • Use oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and other lab test equipment.
  • Use CAD software for schematic capture and PCB layout as well as circuit simulation tools.
  • Occasional local travel to offsite facilities for compliance testing of products to radio link budgets.

What you Bring:

Education and Experience

  • Diploma of Technology in Electrical/Electronics.
  • Minimum 5 years work experience testing and debugging analog, digital, and mixed signal circuits.
  • Knowledge of microcontroller, memory and peripheral bus interfaces, SPI, UART, RS232.
  • Strong comprehension of control circuitry for power management in low power designs.
  • PCB layout using Altium.
  • Knowledge of shielding and isolation design where low noise RF circuitry coexists with embedded digital circuitry.
  • Work with manufacturing test engineers to integrate DFM/DFT principles into designs.
  • Valid BC drivers licence and personal vehicle.
