The Contract Manager will oversee a diverse portfolio of government and commercial contracts and subcontracts, ensuring compliance, efficiency, and successful execution. This role requires meticulous attention to detail, strong negotiation skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders. This role reports into the Vice President of ThayerMahan’s legal team.

Location: Hybrid/Groton, CT

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the entire contract lifecycle, from initiation to closeout, for a range of government and commercial contracts and subcontracts.
  • Review, draft, and negotiate contracts, subcontract agreements, and amendments in collaboration with legal, finance, and other relevant departments.
  • Ensure compliance with contractual obligations, regulations, and company policies throughout the contract lifecycle.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, vendors, and other external partners.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure timely delivery of contractual deliverables and milestones.
  • Conduct risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies to address contract-related risks.
  • Monitor contract performance and financial aspects, including budget tracking, invoicing, and payment processing.
  • Facilitate contract modifications, extensions, and terminations as necessary, while minimizing risks and maximizing value.
  • Provide guidance and support to internal stakeholders on contract-related matters, including interpretation of contractual terms and conditions.
  • Maintain accurate contract records and documentation, including version control and audit trails.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, law, finance, or a related field;
  • Advanced degree or professional certification (e.g., CPCM, CFCM) preferred.
  • Experience in contract management, preferably in a government contracting environment.
  • Understanding of contract law, regulations, and compliance requirements (e.g., FAR, DFARS, ITAR, etc.).
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience with contract management software is a plus.
  • Familiarity with government procurement processes and systems (e.g., SAM*, CPARS**) is a plus.

  • Familiarity with marine vessel charters and/or BIMCO*** form charter contracts is a plus.
  • *** BIMCO = Baltic and International Maritime Council
  • Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
