Based in West Hartford CT, Triumph Systems, Electronics and Controls is a leading independent aerospace system supplier for the commercial and military helicopter and business jet markets and employs approximately 500 employees. The Company’s key products and services include electronic engine controls, fuel metering units, main fuel pumps and environmental control systems for both the OE and aftermarket/spares end markets.

About the Job:

We have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Software Engineering Manager to join our West Hartford, CT team. The Software Engineering Manager would be working in a team environment engaging in full life-cycle development (plan, design, verify, certify) of embedded software for complex control systems certified to RTCA DO-178 (design assurance level A to E) standards. The selected candidate will collaborate closely with software engineers, systems integration, electronics engineers, project management and test engineers. Applicants must have good communication and coordination skills.

Responsibilities

  • Key focal point for both internal and external customers
  • Organizing and directing the activities of the software engineering group ensuring that programs are properly staffed with the right personnel
  • Design, develop, document, test and debug control and diagnostic systems that contain logical and mathematical solutions.
  • Technical excellence in product development and delivery
  • Supervising multiple direct reports and mentoring engineers within the group develop their knowledge/skills and achieve their career goals
  • Preparing bids and proposals for new business opportunities
  • Project planning and oversight and the ability to effectively multi-task
  • Leading continuous improvement efforts to reduce product development cycle time and build upon existing processes and evolve them to utilize the most effective new techniques

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or similar discipline
  • Must have 8+ years of relevant experience
  • Extensive knowledge of software architectures and the C coding language
  • Experience in embedded safety-critical software development and verification, preferably using DO-178 or similar industry standards
  • Experience with all aspects of the software life cycle process including planning, decomposition of system requirements to high level software requirements, low level requirements, architecture, code, verification and certification
  • Experience creating, monitoring, and controlling project schedules and estimating resource needs.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or similar discipline
  • Experience managing a team of engineers
  • Knowledgeable of cybersecurity concepts and implementations within embedded systems
  • Experience designing and architecting software solutions that meet stringent requirements for complex embedded control systems
  • Experience with Model Based Development (DO-331)
  • Experience working in lab environments using in-circuit emulators / target system debuggers and computer assisted test stands
  • Experience with hardware-software integration using oscilloscopes, meters, function generators, etc.
  • Experience working in a cross functional team of program, systems, hardware and software engineers
